On May 6, 2018, Tran deleted all posts on her Instagram account following months of racist and sexist harassment and abuse. Meanwhile, journalist Nicole Karlis condemned attacks on Tran as a manifestation of a fear of women who defied sexist stereotypes. ![]() In response, attorney Anthony Nguyen praised Tran for being the first "woman of color" to be cast in a leading role in the Star Wars franchise. This hostility manifested in racist vandalism to her character's Wookieepedia article and misogynistic remarks on Twitter by conservative vlogger Paul Ray Ramsey. ĭespite the critical and box office success of The Last Jedi, Tran received online abuse from people who disliked her character, Rose. We've possibly seen the last of Tran as Rose in Star Wars, but it's full steam ahead with the actress with her many other projects. I think there are a lot of characters in that universe that we have yet to hear enough about." While her future in the franchise is unclear, Kelly Marie Tran did agree that Rose is a character with a lot more story to tell. I had so much fun being in that world but I feel like the pieces would have to fall into a perfect little puzzle and everything would have to feel like it's the right time and the right moment and the right story, like with any other project.
